Spiders at the PondsGolden Orb-weaver Juvenile

This beautiful looking juvenile female Australian Golden Orb-weaver seen at the Alice Springs Sewage Ponds, if all goes to plan will grow into a sizeable spider.

They do have a variable body and when young, the female body shape is different to the fully mature adult female. When young they can sometimes be mistaken for other spider species. The male of course is completely different in size (being very small in comparison), but there are the Golden Orb-weaver “dimorphic males” that can be as large as the female.
