‘All them Tourists goin’ to look at Countryside’ by Billy Tjampijinpa Kenda

A vibrant mural painting on the riverside walls of the Alice Springs Public Library by local artist Billy Tjampijinpa Kenda. Billy is a Luritja/Pitjantjatjara man, who grew up in Jay Creek and this painting depicts stories and life in the Central Desert as observed by Billy.

Billy has a disability and paints with Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists, who he has been painting with since 2004. His work highlights the diversity of people who use the library and was launched in December 2020 on the International Day for People with Disability.

Now this is special! In 2020, Billy Tjampijinpa Kenda completed a mural on the Alice Springs Public Library titled, ‘All them Tourists goin’ to look at Countryside’, Alice Springs Town Council have been working with Bindi Mwerre Anthurre artists and local film makers to bring the mural to life! PAW Media have completed the clip using Warlpiri graphic designers and a local Indigenous crew to complete the production. Thank you to Regional Arts Australia for making this happen.
