Sometimes we see a wonderful piece of public art that was there… and then it was gone… following are some ephemeral works that were seen in Alice Springs.

On occasions, a work of art would appear, such as this Duck… artist unknown. It appeared on a wall in Alice Springs CBD during the 2018 Alice Springs Street Art Festival. Unlike the many other murals that can still be seen, it then disappeared.

It was not the only artwork that was painted during this festival and then disappeared, in some cases, replaced with another artwork.

The original sculptural work “1984 Sandstone Mural” by John Newman (stonemason) that depicted the range to the west from Heavitree Gap to Mount Gillen, was damaged during a storm, removed and the wall reconstructed in a sad imitation (known as the Kmart Mural).

The following sculptural works were sitting in the front garden of Yubu Napa and have gone to a good home.

When yarn bombing was very popular around Australia, Alice Springs got their Yarn Bomb Eucalypt in 2012.
