Eudesmeola lawsoni belongs to Eudesmeola, which is a monotypic moth genus (“monotypic” describing a genus with a single species). It is commonly known as the Lawson’s Night Moth and the Owlet Moth.
A member of the family Erebidae (erected by George Hampson in 1926), the species Eudesmeola lawsoni was first described by Felder and Rogenhofer in 1874. It is commonly found in the arid inland regions of Australia, although Atlas of Living Australia have listed observations around Australia, including Tasmania.
