Membracoidea (Leafhoppers / Treehoppers) > Leafhoppers / Treehoppers Index

The superfamily Membracoidea, comprises two families in Australia, family Cicadellidae (known as Leafhoppers) and family Membracidae (known as Horned Treehoppers).

Membracoidea are sap-sucking true-bugs and whilst currently include Cicadellidae and Membracidae, the other families in this group are small, having been at various points, included as members within other families, though they are all presently considered to be valid, monophyletic groups (also known as a clade and is a group of organisms that includes a common ancestor and all of its descendants).
