BembixBembix – Image Index Bembix vespiformis

A large cosmopolitan group of medium to large predatory sand wasps, the Bembix genera are found throughout Australia. At time of writing (1 January 2025), iNaturalistAU had 136 listed species from around the world (although there are many unidentified species), of which only 52 species listed with observations.

In Australia, iNaturalistAU had listed observations for 6 species:

  • Bembix aureofasciata
  • Bembix furcata (Blue Sand Wasp)
  • Bembix littoralis
  • Bembix palmata
  • Bembix variabilis
  • Bembix vespiformis (Panda Sand Wasp)
