The Desert Huntsman Spider, species Isopedella inola, is part of the Australian Huntsman Spiders group belonging to the family Sparassidae (formerly Heteropodidae).

One of the diagnostic characters of the species is the white-silver speckles on the underside of their femora, it’s where they get their alternative name “Silver-spotted Huntsman”.

Huntsman Spiders are found under the loose bark of trees, in crevices, under rocks and rock walls. With the urban sprawl, many adapted to buildings and homes, especially where there are gardens. The Desert Huntsman (Isopedella inola) guarding the egg sac pictured here, was photographed at the Alice Springs Desert Park in the Northern Territory.
