Telopea oreades, is commonly known as the Gippsland Waratah, Mountain Waratah or the Victorian Waratah, and is native to the south-eastern part of Australia. It habitat is wet sclerophyll forest and rainforest on rich acidic soils high in organic matter.
The flower heads (inflorescences), occur in late spring, with each flower head composed of up to 60 individual flowers. It grows with a erect habit, usually on a single trunk. It has been known to hybridise in the wild with Telopea mongaensis. There have also been a number of commercial cultivars developed, hybrid with Telopea speciosissima.
