Chrysomelidae > Chrysomelidae Index

One of the Chrysomelid Beetle, Spilopyra sumptuosa is also commonly known as the Rainbow Leaf Beetle.

Spilopyra sumptuosa is one of the most spectacular beetles in the rainforests of Queensland and New South Wales. This species of leaf beetle is very shiny with patchy metallic colours like a polished metal ornament. If you think such a beautiful beetle must stand out in the forest and easy to spot, you can’t be further from the truth. The way lights reflect on their bodies in the dark rainforest helps them blend in with the environment and hide in the foliage very well.
