The genus Lepidiota are a largish cylindrical beetle, with a body length of the different species varying between 15-38 mm. The body colouration of this genus are black, brown, dark brown or reddish brown, with the surface of the body commonly covered in white or yellowish scales, sometimes sparsely, or sometimes wholly contained within punctations.

There are over a 150 known species of Lepidiota that are found across India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, the Phillipines, and southwards into Papua New Guinea and northern Australia, with 55 Lepidiota species present in Australia.
