Found growing across the coastal areas of New South Wales and south-east Queensland, the Native Violet (Viola banksii) name is derived from the Latin viola, violet in reference to the colour and banksii, after Sir Joseph Banks.
The species is distinguished by its striking purple and white flowers on an erect stem. The leaves are almost circular with a deep, narrow, v-shaped sinus at the base, and are usually bright green.
