Cyrioides imperialis
Commonly known as the Banksia Jewel Beetle, Cyrioides imperialis is a species of beetle native to south-eastern Australia. The adult beetle measures approximately 3.8 cm long, with an elongated body that is gold and black in colour.
Female beetle of the species lay their eggs in the bark of a tree, from which the larvae hatch and then tunnel into the wood. They are usually found on Banksias that include B. serrata, B. integrifolia and B. marginata, that are host plants for the larval and adult stages of the beetle. There have been other host plants recorded, including B. spinulosa, Leptospermum polygalifolium, and Isopogon species.
