First described by American zoologist Theodore Dru Alison Cockerell (born in England) in 1913, the following Megachile (Thaumatosoma) remeata male was found resting on the trunk of a Kurrajong tree. Location Errabiddy Outcamp Ruins, about 10 km from Murchison Settlement.
These bees were sunning themselves and resting on the warm side of the sloping section of the chimney, the main remaining part of the Errabiddy Outcamp ruins.
This is the male we found on a nearby Kurrajong tree. The flattened antennal tips and eye colouring are special.
This is a close-up of the head and thorax of the male.
