The species Lechenaultia formosa is a member of the family Goodeniaceae, common name of Red Leschenaultia. It is an endemic species to southern Western Australia, especially found in arid and sunny areas, where they can become widespread, especially after fire or where there is soil disturbance.

The flowers are colourful, about the size of your thumbnail. The colour ranging from a rich red to bright yellow, and are seen with the different colours transitioning on individual flowers.

Three of the five floral lobes are spreading, with showy broad wings on each side of the petal in a zygomorphic (having only one plane of symmetry) fan-shape. The other two petals are erect, with reduced wings.

It is a shrubby looking plant, no more then 50 cm in height. It is often found growing in a round shape. The leaves are fleshy and small, about 4 to 9 mm long.
