Sapphire Coast SpidersCommon Bird-dropping Spider (Celaenia excavata) Common Triangular Spider (Arkys lancearius) Walckenaer’s Studded Triangular Spider (Arkys walckenaeri)
Arkys lancearius, is known as the Common Triangular Spider or Triangular Spider, a name that is derived form the distinctive triangular (heart-shaped abdomen).
They are a brightly coloured patterned species of spider that can found along the east coast of Australia, from Queensland, down through New South Wales, Victoria, parts of South Australia, south-eastern parts of Western Australia and Tasmania.
First observation of this species at the Montreal Goldfield site although I have been looking for it for several months. Although common and brightly coloured (I score this species 0/10 for camouflage) this spider can be difficult to find due to its small size and tendency to hide on the underside of a leaf during the daylight hours – probably because of the aforementioned lack of camouflage skills.
