Choerocoris paganus (Red Jewel Bug)Life cycle (Choerocoris paganus)

Heteroptera > Heteroptera Index

As with most insects, the Shield Bugs / Stink Bugs go through three stages of metamorphosis: egg, nymph and adult. The Choerocoris paganus adult male will mate with the female and dies between 5-6 weeks after mating. The female will lay her eggs and dies some 6-10 weeks later.

The eggs have a flat base and are barrel-dome shaped, about 1.14 mm and
0.86 mm in diameter. They appear colourless when first laid. After four days the
egg have a pink tinge, becoming bright red within a week. As adults, the Choerocoris paganus go through 5 instar stages, as they outgrow their exoskeleton.

In the final stage of Choerocoris paganus, the the mature adults can be predominately red to orange in colouration.
