The genus Leioproctus, from the family Colletidae, subfamily Neopasiphaeinae are a large and varied group of native bees, that are found across Australia. The size can range from 4 mm to 16 mm. Whilst most of the species are black in colour, some species have coloured abdomens, that can range from orange-red, to metallic blue, green, gold, red.

Another feature that is typical of many Leioproctus species are the dense long hairs on the last section of the metasoma and known as the pre-pygidial fimbria.
