The Yellow Soldier Beetle (Chauliognathus flavipennis) belong to the common name group of Soldier Beetles.
Some of the genus Chauliognathus species are orange and black, yellow and black or red and black. The elytra (the first pair of wings) are softer than the elytra of most beetles, which gives their other common name of Leatherwings.
The adult beetles often found on flowers, such as sunflowers, goldenrod, coneflowers, where they mate and feed on the pollen and nectar.
Current observations of Chauliognathus flavipennis species are along the east coast regions of Australia.
