Set in Blue Mountains World Heritage wilderness, Jenolan Caves are the largest and most spectacular caves in Australia. Here you can get to explore an awe-inspiring natural wonder, one of the world’s oldest caves, in one of the most outstanding cave systems in the world.

When we first visited, there were only nine caves, since then more cave systems have been opened up and you have a choice of eleven unique caves with tour options to suit all ages and levels of fitness.

There is also accommodation and the magnificent Chisolm’s Restaurant, one of the most historic restaurants in the Blue Mountains.

With over 2,400 ha of wildlife reserve, offering mountain lookouts, natural archways, rives, waterfalls, flora and fauna, secluded picnic spots, barbecue areas, bistro and dining at Jenolan Caves House, it is a great place to spend a few days or a week.

Jenolan Caves were known to the local Aboriginal population for many thousands of years as Binoomea, “Dark places”. To find out more about the local Aboriginal history and connection to this area, check out the Jenolan Caves Aboriginal Culture section2.

For those into caves, there is also the Wombeyan Caves at the Wombeyan Karst Conservation Reserve, located south of Jenolan Caves (approximately 122 km south via Abercrombie Rd). For more information check out the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service4.
