Blue Mountains FloraMountain Devil Patersonia sericea Wollemi Pine
With the discovery in 1994 of the Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis), and referred to as the “dinosaur tree”, the Wollemi Pine has became one of the iconic symbols of the Greater Blue Mountains Area.
Inscribed on the World Heritage List at the 24th Session of the World Heritage Committee in December 2000, and with less than 100 adult trees known to exist in the wild, there has been much work done by scientists behind the scenes studying, cloning and growing new plants, enabling the home gardener to grow at home.
Having a Wollemi Pine in the garden, allows everyone to help in the conservation of this unique endangered species. The photographs on this page are of a Wollemi Pine growing in a home garden in the Blue Mountains.
