The genus Leioproctus, from the family Colletidae, are a large and varied group of native bees, that occur across Australia. They range in size from 4 mm to 16 mm. Whilst most are black in colour, some species have coloured abdomens, ranging from orange-red, to metallic blue, green, gold, red.

Another feature that is typical of many Leioproctus species are the dense long hairs on the last section of the metasoma and known as the pre-pygidial fimbria.
