Deinopis subrufa, was first described by Ludwig Koch in 1878, in the genus Deinopis. Renamed Asianopis subrufa, the species is now in the newly created genus Asianopis (since 2020). This genus Asianopis includes the Asian and West Pacific species that were also formerly included in the genus Deinopis.6
Deinopis subrufa belong to the family Deinopidae (commonly known as net casting spiders — a family of cribellate spiders).
The word deinos, comes from the Greek meaning fearful, and opis, meaning appearance. The word subrufa, is from the Latin for “slightly reddish”.

Asianopis is a genus of Asian net-casting spiders, first described by Y. J. Lin, L. Shao and A. Hänggi in 2020. This saw the species Deinopis subrufa moved to the genus Asianopis and the species re-classified as Asianopis subrufa, although many online sources still retain the classification as Deinopis subrufa.
