The Caper White Butterfly are known to feed on the nectar of a select number of plants, they only seek out certain plants to lay their eggs on. The host plants they lay their eggs on are in the caper family (Capparis spp).

The favoured food plant of the Caper White Butterfly (sub-species Belenois java teutonia) belong to the native caper plants genus Capparis. In Central Australia the Caper White can often be found around the Wild Passionfruit (Capparis spinosa var. nummularia) and the Australian Native Orange (Capparis mitchellii).

In the following series of images the Caper White Butterfly (Belenois java teutonia) are laying its eggs on the underside leaf of the Caper Bush (Capparis spinosa var. nummularia) in Alice Springs, NT.

In the following series of photos you can see the Caper White Butterfly (Belenois java teutonia) laying its eggs on the Caper Bush (Capparis spinosa var. nummularia) that has been nearly denuded of leaves by caterpillars of the same species.

The cycle of the eggs, caterpillars, butterflies continue when the male mates with the female of the species. Often the male Caper White Butterfly will wait around the chrysalis for the newly emerged female Caper White Butterfly to mate with them.
