As you explore region of Central Australi, keep an eye out for the Inland Bearded Dragon, also known as the Bearded Dragon, Central Bearded Dragon or “Beardie” as referred to by some of the locals.
A great looking reptile, they can grow up to 60 cm in length from head to tail. The Inland Bearded Dragon can look fiercesome and formidable, especially when you see the ’rounded beard’ darken and puff out, displaying the rows of spines across the throat, especially when feeling threatened. This is “all show and no go“, and they will more like scurry away from you.
Like many reptiles, during the cooler months of the year, they may be seen basking on rocks and even the roads and highway (so please keep an eye out for them and drive safely).
Even within the urban garden, you may be lucky to see a Bearded Dragon.
