The largest herbivorous animal native to Australia is the Kangaroo. This common name is used to describe the Red Kangaroo (or Big Red), Eastern Grey Kangaroo and Western Grey Kangaroo. Members of this group can be seen across Australia, in their natural environment, including national parks and outback regions.

The Red Kangaroo (Osphranter rufus) is the largest of the kangaroos, the largest terrestrial mammal native to Australia, and the largest extant (existing) marsupial. It is found across mainland Australia, except for the more fertile areas, instead seen commonly in the semi-arid and inland regions of Australia.

The Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus), also known as the Great Grey Kangaroo and the Forester Kangaroo, is a marsupial that is found in the eastern third of Australia. Despite the name it is smaller then the Red Kangaroo (Osphranter rufus).

The Big Red has a body of up to 1.4 m, with tail up to 1 m, with the male weighing between 55 to 90 kg. The Eastern Grey has a body of up to 1.3 m and tail up to 1.1 m, with the male weighing between 50 to 69 kg.

The Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus), also known as a Western Grey Giant Kangaroo, Black-faced Kangaroo, Mallee Kangaroo, Sooty Kangaroo and Kangaroo Island Grey Kangaroo (referring to the Kangaroo Island subspecies), is relatively large and common across the southern parts of Australia.
