Lipotriches gracilipes are a species under the subgenus Lipotriches (Austronomia).
Previously classified in the genus Nomia, the Lipotriches Bees are now in the genus Lipotriches, with (at the time of writing) two subgenus Lipotriches (Austronomia) Michener, 1965 and Lipotriches (Lipotriches) Gerstaecker, 1858. Austronomia has 54 recognised species, with 2 recognised species in Lipotriches.
The Nomia and the Lipotriches bees can be distinguished by their abdomen, in that the Nomia Bees have a shiny enamel-like bands across their abdomen, whilst the Lipotriches Bees have light coloured hair bands.
They have a distribution range across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.
