Finlayson’s Cave Bat (Vespadelus finlaysoni), belonging to the Vesper Bats (subfamily Vespertilioninae) is a species found only in Australia. Whilst the Inland Cave Bats are are found in a range of habits (from desert to high rainfall and coastal areas), they are ususally found near rock outcrops or hilly terrain.
It is named after the South Australian field researcher and mammalogist H. H. Finlayson, who is noted for his research in the regions inhabited by the species.
The deceased specimen shown here is from Alice Springs in Central Australia.
