Eric Braedon Mbitjana is a traditional owner of the Etikaura (Chambers Pillar) and Wurre (Rainbow Valley) areas, southeast of Mparntwe (Alice Springs). Eric has custodianship of his ancestral land and with a deep commitment to passing on his knowledge to the next generation through art and storytelling.

Eric began painting in the mid-1980s. The main theme in many of his artwork show how men traditionally hunt for bush tucker such as lizards, perenties and kangaroos. He also painted the Dingo Dreaming and Caterpillar Dreaming and songlines that cross through Mparntwe and the surrounding country, including Ngaripe (Heavitree Gap) in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). 

Eric’s passion is evident in his successful campaigning for his “country”. With his breadth of cultural knowledge, Eric has also been an advisor to local museums on local cultural knowledge, determines what artefacts can be exhibited, those that can be kept but not exhibited, or those that need to be returned.
