One of the many things my father did, as we were growing up, he would carefully store away parts of our youth. In one recent discovery we found among my vinyl record collection, my father had filed away an album by the rock group Uriah Heep – The Magician’s Birthday.
I had actually forgotten that I had seen them when we use to live in Dortmund, Germany, but here it was the album and the ticket to the concert at Westfalenhalle 3 in Dortmund (held on 11 June, 1974). Even more exciting (at least to me), was to see that I had got the band members to sign the ticket. Unfortunately, although I have a vague memory of the stadium, I have no memory of actually meeting them and getting their autographs. Yet here the ticket was, carefully tucked away by my father, with the album.
Today, Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle is described as a large concert and event arena in Germany – a listed building with a capacity of up to 15,380 people.

The autograph above is thought to be Ken Hensley signature.

The album is now framed and hangs in my home… a link to the past…
