A small parrot, the Purple-crowned Lorikeet (Parvipsitta porphyrocephala) have an overall green-yellow colouration with distinctive orange and yellow cheek patch and red and yellow patch in front of the eyes and above the bill. The males have a crimson patch under the wings, visible in flight.

The purple crown of the Purple-crowned Lorikeet, often appears to be black (especially under certain lighting conditions. The immature birds lack the purple crown.
