William Creek can be accessed from four different routes:
- via Oodnadatta, from the north along the Oodnadatta Track.
- via Marree, from the south along the Oodnadatta Track.
- via Roxby Downs, from the south via Borefield Road, joining the Oodnadatta Track.
- via Coober Pedy, from the west along William Creek Road.
Check with the local visitor centre to find out if these roads are unsealed. These routes are usually well maintained making them suitable for 2 wheel drive vehicles, however this can change quickly due to weather conditions.
There are signs at the start of all of these roads, giving information on road conditions, or contact the local or regional visitor centres for up-dates on weather and road conditions.
William Creek is the closest settlement to Lake Eyre North, serviced by a regional airline, especially for those wanting flights over and to visit the nearby Lake Eyre.
As well as provision, fuel and refreshment, there is a open “air museum” set up by by the William Creek Progress Association, which is across the road from the William Creek Hotel. The pub hotel has some interesting interior and you can have meals and a cold drink.
