Australia has over 8,200 islands, several larger than 1,000 square km, with many of the islands offering the visitor an interesting destination.

Some well known and popular island destinations include the Whitsunday Islands (with over 570 named islands) in Queensland, Christmas Island and Rottnest Island (home to the iconic Quokka) in Western Australia. Whilst the state of Tasmania is often referred to as the “Apple Isle”, it also has over 300 smaller islands, that include Flinders Island, King Island, Bruny Island, and Maria Island. Other well known islands in Australia are Kangaroo Island in South Australia, Phillip Island in Victoria, Montague Island and South Coast Islands in New South Wales.
