Named after John Wickham who was the commander of the Beagle, the Grevillea wickhamii, more commonly known as Holly Grevillea, was collected during surveys of the north-west coast (1837-38), Australia with Charles Darwin.

Holly Grevillea can be found growing on sand plains in Central Australia, especially near and on rocky outcrops and gorges. The leaves are pale green with sharp spiked lobes (similar to the holly). Flowers in Autumn, Winter and Spring.

    • Holly grevillea, Holly-leaf grevillea, Wickham’s grevillea, Wickham’s Holly Grevillea. Common names in WA include: Arajukaljukua, Ljaka, Lukkulburra, Kalkurunga, Ngalyanta (from the Nyangumarta language).
  • Where Found
    • Found growing on sand plains, rocky outcrops and gorges, cliffs and ridges, creek lines, in northern Western Australia, South Australia, western Queensland, Central Australia and inland regions of the Northern Territory. Has been found in the Kimberley, Pilbara, Great Sandy and Gibson Deserts, Kings Canyon, Rainbow Valley and West MacDonnell Ranges.
