Whilst the Megachile aurifrons are opportunistic when searching for suitable nests, the location and surrounds of the new home appears to also be of importance. It is common to see Megachile aurifrons using the empty holes in mud nests, vacated by potter wasps. These mud nests are usually suitably located, in shaded spots and areas where it is easy to maintain a more constant temperature. The mud nests are found against urban structures, such as window frames, underneath tables and other man-made structures. It is rare to find them in full sun. The resin bee also uses suitably sized holes in timber.

When opportunity presents itself, the Golden-browed Resin Bee have also been documented selecting other objects such as the end of irrigation waterpipe (the 13 mm hose used in garden irrigation).
