Sometimes referred to as a topknot pigeon, the Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes) are widely distributed across the mainland, found in the the arid regions as well as having successfully established themselves in urban areas.

In Central Australia they can often be seen around sources of water such as waterholes, gorges and water troughs.

The following Crested Pigeon was photographed at the natural artesian springs known as Witjira-Dalhousie Springs, water holes located in Witjira National Park on the western fringe of the Simpson Desert.
