The Brown-headed Honeyeater (Melithreptus brevirostris) is endemic to Australia.

It is found in coastal south-eastern Australia, central-southern Queensland (mainly west of the Great Dividing Range, through New South Wales, Victoria and eastern South Australia (including Flinders Ranges), as well as parts of south-western Australia.

Its natural habitats are eucalypt forests and woodlands, temperate forests and shrubby vegetation, tree lined coastal cliffs and mountain ranges, and inland semi-arid plains.
