One of the displays in the Nocturnal House is the endangered Greater Bilby (Macrotis lagotis), the only Australian species of bandicoot that makes underground shelters. Being excellent burrowers, they build extensive tunnel systems that spirals downwards and can be up to 3 metres long. Bilbies are known to have several burrows where they can shelter during the day.
