So you have your own domain name, created effective meta tags and page titles, implemented your reciprocal link program, registered your website with specific directories, integrated your web address with all your promotional material from brochures, business cards to letterheads. Now you are ready to consider marketing your site online.

There are many online marketing agencies that you can choose from offering a range of options from banner ads to sponsorships. Don't confuse these with websites and individuals offering SEO services.

Most website owners will already have received email, usually from overseas locations, offering SEO and other offers of helping you promote your website online. You should approach these email offers and invites with care, many of which are just spam. Some do not provide what they say, whilst others may damage your website reputation by getting links for you on websites of no value such as 'link farms', and in such cases, your site may even be penalised by search engines.
 

There is of course the biggest online brand Google, offering the Google AdWords advertising network, that can complement their Google AdSense program. You can even tie together the income you generate from Google to use for advertising with Google.

If you are using Google or any other advertising program, you do not need to stick just with the one, in fact implementing an integrated marketing campaign with more than one agency may be more beneficial. Remember, you can always change marketing agencies if they are not working as well as you hoped, provided you have not signed any contract that locks you in.

Of course the other side of the scales is generating income, that makes for a balanced marketing and revenue stream.
