Henley Brook - Cities, Towns and Localities

Located where the Ellen Brook and Swan River meet and just 25 km north east from Perth’s city centre, Henley Brook is a suburb of the Swan Valley Ward. It was here back in March 1827 that Captain James Stirling of H.M.S. Success exploration of the Swan River had finally reached the extremity of navigable water. A tablet marks the spot, where they had set up camp.

Stirling had named an area near Upper Swan ‘Henley Park’ and this name was used as a property name in 1830 by W. H. Mackie and F. C. Irwin when they settled here. IN 1842 a brook flowing though the property was recorded as Henley Brook. In 1972 Henley Brook was officially approved as the suburb name.

Henley Brook is also home to the oldest church in Western Australia, the ‘All Saints Church’, built by Richard Edwards between 1838 and 1840. The first service taking place on 10 January 1841.

There is plenty to see and do in the area, located as it is in the popular tourist destination of the Swan Valley. There are numerous attractions in the region including wineries, breweries, distilleries, cafes and restaurants, arts and craft, fresh local produce and Whiteman Park. It’s close proximity to Perth, makes it a very popular place not only for locals but visitors from around the world.

A great way to experience the region is to follow the award-winning Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail – a scenic 32 kilometre loop that takes in some of the best things on offer in the Swan Valley.
