Bunbury Foreshore

Located in the South West region of Western Australia, Bunbury is a port city located just 175 km south of Perth. Its rich maritime heritage, with estuary, deep water port, sheltered bay, a protected boat harbour make it a waterfront playground. It is also the second largest population in Western Australia, that is only two hours from Perth, linked by rail, air and road.

Bunbury Attractions

Capel Wetlands and Bunbury’s Big Swamp
• Are migratory destination and home to scores of waterbirds. This wetlands and mangroves from the bird hides and viewing points nestled right amongst them. Capel Wetlands comprises over 14 ponds developed from rehabilitated excavation areas. Tours of this sanctuary can be arranged by appointment through the Bunbury Tourist Bureau. Bunbury’s Big Swamp is also an excellent place to walk or cycle with an extensive dual use path system. There is also a 200 metre boardwalk that gives you a closer look at the unique white Mangroves ecosystem in Bunbury’s Leschenault Inlet.

• Approx two hours south of Perth and operated by the Bunbury Dolphin Trust, The Dolphin Discovery Centre offer shore-based and boat-based interaction with wild dolphins as well as dolphin watching tours and an educational Interpretive Centre. Koombana Bay is home to over 100 bottlenose dolphins and the best time to see them is between 8 am and noon.
Wellington Discovery Forest
• Enjoy the diverse ecosystem of a jarrah forest. There are several walk trails well worth exploring.
Wildflowers of the Region
• The best wildflowers show can be seen in the South West from September through to November. You can take any one of the walk trails through spectacular jarrah forests or banksia bushland surrounding the Port of Bunbury. Discover masses of yellow Wattle, Coral Vine, Hovea, blue Leschenaultia, mauve Pepper and Salt, and white Pimelias. In addition, Western Australia’s floral emblem the Kangaroo Paw can be seen in abundance throughout the immediate bushlands surrounding Bunbury. There are a number of tours with trained guides provide details about various species of the local bush and flora.
