The Great Southern is a region with national parks, rolling green hills, karri
forests that meet the sea, granite coastline, pristine waterways, harbours,
beaches, mountain ranges, abundant wildlife, and stunning wildflowers. During
July to November the ocean around the region is a popular tourist magnet as it
becomes the breeding and
resting ground for whales. With a Mediterranean climate, it is also one of the
largest wine regions in Australia.
There are five sub-regions that include the towns major towns of Albany, Denmark,
Barker and Porongurup.
