Maryborough - Cities, Towns and Localities
Located in the heart of Victoria and the Goldfields, central to Ballarat and Bendigo, Maryborough makes an ideal place to base yourself for exploring the region.

The area was settled in the 1830's by the Simson brothers who were pastoralists, but the discovery of gold soon saw a flood of prospectors to the area in search of their fortune. Maryborough is renowned for its alluvial gold, and still attract visitors today searching for that lucky find.

The legacy of those times are the impressive buildings historic cottages, beautiful parks and gardens. Indeed, the Civic Centre, known as McLandress Square is surrounded by one of Australia's most significant group of public buildings that include the courthouse, fire station, post office and town hall.

Maryborough Attractions

Maryborough Railway Station

• One of Maryborough finest buildings, this large historic building was erected in 1890. It is quoted that Mark Twain remarked when visiting it is “A station with a town attached”. With its ornate clock tower, Flemish gables, attractive wrought-iron work verandah and the the longest platform in country Victoria.
