Jan Juc - Cities, Towns and Localities
The seaside town of Jan Juc adjoins Torquay, separated by Spring Creek and the Torquay Foreshore Reserve, whilst on the west side is Bells Beach. Together they represent the surfing heart of Australia, with Torquay as the surfing capital and Jan Juc and Bells Beach providing some of the best surfing beaches in Australia.

Jan Juc Ocean Beach is rated highly hazardous, being Torquay’s second and more exposed surfing beach. It receives waves averaging 1.4 m over over an area that extends for 1.2 km between Rocky Point and Bird Rock and faces almost due south, resulting in the larger waves.

The northern half of the beach is backed by low bluffs, partly covered by dunes. The Surf Lifesaving Club is located here. The narrow southern half of the beach is backed by 20 m high cliffs. Flags are usually found placed towards the surf club at the northern end of the beach, where swimming conditions are generally safer.

Beach goers are advised to swim only between the flags and follow the lifesavers instructions. The local Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club patrols during the summer season every Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays (except Christmas day). See their website to confirm details.

Located within the scenic Great Ocean Road region, Jan Juc is a good starting point for a great holiday experience.
