Daylesford - Cities, Towns and Localities
Located in the Hepburn Shire that includes the towns of Creswick, Clunes and Trentham, Daylesford is part of the popular 'Spa Country', a region renowned for its natural beauty and mineral springs reserves. This area contains 80 per cent of Australia's mineral springs, a region of unique geological and hydrological features that provide a major tourist attraction for the many thousands of visitors to the region.1

Daylesford today is a far cry from its former gold mining past, with its breathtaking scenery, natural mineral springs, spa retreats and holistic services. Together with nearby Hepburn Springs, it is the perfect place for either a romantic getaway or a relaxing holiday. It is also a great place to base yourself to visit the Goldfields Region and Ballarat.

Daylesford Attractions

Daylesford Historical Society Museum • Daylesford & District Historical Society Inc

• Daylesford Historical Society Museum has approximately 800 square metres of interior displays and approximately 250 square metres of covered yard and houses an large collection of local memorabilia and artefacts.

The museum also has extensive archival resources that are accessible by arrangement for research to researchers and genealogists. As the Museum and archives are operated entirely by volunteers please contact the Society to arrange for use of the research facilities. The Society is always grateful for donations.

Group tours are welcome by arrangement and catering can be arranged.
The Daylesford Spa Country Railway

• Take a trip through the forest on Victoria's Central Highlands in this unique railway experience on the 120 year old Daylesford branch line of the former Victorian Railways. See and ride restored trains up to 70 years old from the “Home of Victorian Railmotors”.

The Tourist Railway is a living museum of railway history, registered in the Museum Accreditation Program. Enquire at Daylesford Station about our ongoing displays of railway history and our restorations and preservation projects.

Train services and special trains include:
  • Sunday excursion trains every Sunday of the year.
  • Charter trains by arrangement.
  • Champagne Train, the Silver Streak!
    Pre-dinner drinks and savouries on board the train. Ideal for couples and groups.

Special train services: Silver Streak Champagne Train to Bullarto and return.

Lavandula Lavender Farm

• A Swiss Italian farm that grows lavender, olives and grapes. Stoechas lavender is in flower from October. The English lavender fields are at their best from Christmas. The La Trattoria is fully licensed and serves Swiss Italian cuisine and lavender scones. The Barn is home to the Lavandula Shop, carrying a large range of home grown Lavender products, country style goods, local arts and craft, dried herbs and flowers. Located just 10 km north of Daylesford on the Hepburn-Newstead Road, Melway 609 C8.
