Baw Baw National Park - Cities, Towns and Localities
So close to Melbourne and perfect for that summer or winter getaway. This 13,300 ha sub alpine park protects the ancient forests in the Thomson and Aberfeldy River valleys along with the Baw Baw plateau a region that supports native snow gums and extensive alpine heaths.

Being only 120km from Melbourne the park offers a great day trip for all who enjoy our national parks. A huge variety of activities awaits you in Baw Baw. The area is renown for its walking tracks, winding roads with magnificent scenery, picnic facilities at St Gwinear and Mt Erica, camping is permitted however fire restrictions usually apply, cycling, skiing, hunting, canoeing, white water rafting on the Thomason river, horse riding, and fishing, all can be enjoyed to the max in this wonderful natural playground.

The river valley sections of the park are home to the tall timber trees and a large variety of wildlife including Victoria's endangered state faunal emblem the Leadbeaters Possum which resides in the mountain ash forests. Other native animals found in the park include swamp wallaby, common wombat, sugar glider, platypus, yellow bellied glider and many more.

Access to the park is suitable for all vehicles however caravans may be restricted in some locations and chains may be required in some places during snowfalls.

Mt Baw Baw Resort
• Mt Baw Baw Tourist Rd
• Offers a delightful village atmosphere that is quite unique. The warm inviting environment is enhanced by the large number of club lodges spread through the gum trees, resulting in a friendly family feel to the whole resort.
The Australian Alps Walking Track
• The Australian Alps Walking track was formally called the Alpine Walking Track and takes in some of Victoria's, New South Wales and The Australian Capital Territory's best walking and bush country. The track starts in Whalhalla in Victoria's south and travels through some of Australia's highest peaks as well as rivers, creek, mountains and towns on its way north to Tharwa just south of Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory.
