Following are some of the great festivals and events happening in Tasmania.

For more information, check the destination pages of the town or area you are visiting.

Some festivals and events happen at the same throughout Australia, such as Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, ANZAC Day, Australia Day, local markets, agricultural shows etc. Some scheduled events only have approximate dates, with some dates changing or being cancelled.

When planning your travel around events, contact the holder of the event or the local visitor centre where the event is happening to confirm the event timetable.

Australia Wide Events - Tasmania

Location Event

  Australia Day
• 26th January
• A day when we come together to celebrate Australia and being Australian. Celebrations are nation wide.

Details can be found on the government Australia Day site.

• 25th April
• This day of remembrance marks the deaths and sufferings of brave men and women, who lost their lives in the fight to bring peace and harmony to the world.

It commemorates the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 (during World War I), which saw men from two countries, Australia and New Zealand, come together and fight as one, the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

The massive loss of life, was deeply felt, and today it is a day we mark as
‘ANZAC Day: Lest We Forget’.

  Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve
• 24-31 December
• Capital cities throughout Australia and many of the major cities often put on special events such as Carol by Candlelight and New Years Eve firework display. Details can often be found on the local council sites.

Burnie Burnie Farmers Market
• Held first and third Saturday of each month
• The Burnie Farmers Market has some 50 stalls selling fresh produce and craft.

Evandale Evandale Market
• Held every Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm
• Held in Falls Park, Evandale, this popular Sunday market has over a hundred stalls of all types offering a wide range of wares, from high quality crafts to bric-a-brac, fresh produce, takeaway, refreshment etc. There is something for every budget.

Hobart Salamanca Market
• Every Saturday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm
• Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia’s best outdoor market. Set between graceful plane trees and the mellow sandstone facades of historic warehouses, Hobart’s famous market at Salamanca Place attracts thousands of locals and visitors, every Saturday of the year. Showground Market • Royal Hobart Showground
• Every Sunday - 8 am to 2 pm
• The biggest and best family Market in Tasmania with both outdoor and undercover sites. There is sure to be something for everyone, from second hand goods to art and craft ware, bric-a-brac, home cooked cakes, chutneys and jams, fresh produce, a trash and treasure trove, for a fun day out.

Penguin Penguin Market
• Held every Sunday - Closed Christmas Day
• Penguin Market is Northern Tasmania’s largest market offering over 200 stalls, all under cover, making Penguin Market an all weather market. It has quality product lines which include fresh produce, fine Tasmanian woodwork, jewellery, fashion, giftware, hand made craft, and homewares. There is also an International food court which includes pizza and pasta, espresso bar, wine bar, souvlaki, seafood, Asian, ice cream bar, juice & health food, and much more!

Port Arthur Port Arthur Market
• First Sunday of the month - from 9 am to 3 pm
• A gathering of Tasmania’s creative talents and speciality products. With live music and performance with waterfront views, and only 5 minutes from the Port Arthur Historical site.
