Located on the western edge of the
Simpson Desert, Witjira National Park covers some 780,000 ha providing views of
a fascinating arid desert landscape of gibber plains, sand dunes, salt pans,
flat-topped mesa hills and 'breakaway country'.
The track through the Witjira
National Park is off-road and it is recommended that only those in 4 wheel drive vehicles enter the park.
Trailers, caravans and motorhomes are not
recommended east of Dalhousie Springs.
The roads to and through the park can become impassable, so check ahead for weather and road conditions from either Oodnadatta or
Mount Dare. Information may also be posted on the official Witjira National Park
site. A Desert Parks Pass is required and the
best time to visit is during the winter.
