Frances - Cities, Towns and Localities
Named by Sir James Ferguson who was Governor of South Australia from 16th February 1869 to 18th April 1873, Frances is a small township located just south east of Bordertown and north east to the Naracoorte and the famed Naracoorte Caves National Park.

Beginning as a railway town in the late 1880s, Frances was the centre of the first agricultural subdivision in the district. Although still a rural community today, one of its main attractions is the annual Frances Folk Gathering in February. This popular event attracts thousands of people to a unique, interactive event that features music, workshops, song writing, dancing and poetry.

Other nearby attractions include the Little Desert National Park, and the Mullinger Swamp Conservation Park.

Frances Folk Gathering & Festival

• February
• The first Folk Weekend was held on the 11th to 13th February 2000, with about 500-600 people gathered from Adelaide, Melbourne and all over south east South Australia. Such was the mix of people from young to old, dyed-in-the-wool folkies, new folkies, and people who had never heard of folkies or folk music/culture. Such was the friendly, welcoming attitude of the local and all who attended, that it was declared a resounding success. Since then it has been held every year, during February. For more information check out their website. Heaps of images from each event since the year 2000.

There is music, dance, poetry, story telling and much more. What do you need to bring? Friendship, voices, instruments, feet, family and friends, something to sleep in (tent/swag) or book into local accommodation, and a happy mood for a good weekend.
