St George - Cities, Towns and Localities

'Inland Oasis'

The wonderful inland town of St George is situated on the mighty Balonne River, famous for its Murray Cod and Yellow Belly fishing. Other waterways that contribute to the oasis feel of the town is the Beardmore Dam and more recently the Jack Taylor Weir which provides water for irrigation and has helped to boost the agricultural production of cotton and other produce from this region.

Parklands stretch along the river through the town and make for a great way to relax and drop your line in, go swimming, picnic, and many other water sports such as skiing, and canoeing.

The region is also home to a large variety of produce such as wheat, cattle, goats, sheep, wine, rockmelons, soybeans, sorghum, and many types of nuts. Major town facilities can be found here.

Check out our listing of St George accommodation. In addition to our listed online travel guide information, contact the local tourism visitor centre for your destination for more attractions, tours, local maps and other information.
