Lochern National Park - Cities, Towns and Localities
Lochern covers some 24600ha of gidgee country with Mulga and Mitchell grass plains. The Thomson River also flows through the park providing a rich water source for the native birds and animals that inhabit the area. The park was once a grazing property and still has remnants of this era including shearers quarters and other buildings on site.

Red tailed and pink cockatoos are common throughout the park as are kangaroo, emus, brolga's, and nocturnal mice. The temperatures in this isolated part of Queensland can get quite high during summer making winter the best time to visit.

Camping is by permit only and must be obtained before entering the park. Please be aware and leave in place all aboriginal artefacts as the park is home to many sites of cultural significance.

Contact the local Parks and Wildlife Service or visit the QLD National parks, marine parks and forests website. In addition to our listed online travel guide information, contact the local tourism visitor centre for your destination for more attractions, tours, local maps and other information.
